Yay..although mostly reinstated for Tiff to keep up on her trip..I will try to keep it more up to date in the future.

Monday March 30th

Remeber the Literacy Test is Thurs morning, so no classes...but some of you will need to write it.

Grade 12 - We discussed the use and misuse of stats. You got a huge package, and we assigned some of the questions (1-4, 13, etc). Please keep the package handy because we will look at some of the other questions later.

Grade 10 - We started work on Similar Triangles. A new topic, but not too difficult. You got a new handout for the conversion sheet (sorry about Fridays half-blank one...I kicked the copier enough times that it works again).
You have some text work to do on Pg 235 #3, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and one from 16 (a or b)

Grade 10 Locally Developed

We looked at Commission (as our final money making form), and you were given one sheet to complete. Any extra time was used to make sure all of last weeks stuff is done.

Grade 11 College

You got a new assignment for probability. There are 15 questions, and they get pretty tough by the end. In a valiant attempt...I tried to post a link here to a copy of the assignment online (but I won't guarantee it will work....actually I doubt it).

Thursday was a work period...

Make sure all the measurment stuff is done and in (including optimization)

Grade 10's

We dealt mostly with substitution and elimination again.. On Mon, you got a 3 pg booklet to complete. Tues and Wed were spent looking at work problems, and you had 6 to do over the d days on Pg 143 of your text #4,7,8 (Tue) and #3,10,11 (Wed). Thursday was a catch-up day, and we just started our measurment/geometry unit with conversions on Friday, and one sheet (double sided) to complete.

Grade 10 Locally Developed

We are finally allowed to use calculators, so please bring one to class from now on. We started with doing percents again (this time with more difficult numbers). We moved on to finding ways in which people get paid...We looked at salary, hourly, and Overtime, as well as piecework. We had one catch-up day, but will still be on this topic next week.

Grade 11 College

You spent the first 3 days of last week, completing the Scale Model project (make a golf ball box, and soup can). We then moved on to probability (taking most of the class Thu), then used Fri to complete the textbook pgs on probablility.

It seems I cannot keep up with the blog/homework site like I thought...
Most of the other math teachers seem to be doing fine, but not me...
At least I'm keeping up with facebook..LOL

So we will try this again...First last weeks, just to get caught up (week before that was break), then this week..

Friday March 6th

Grade 12's - Work on Pg 202, 208, 216. Be sure to have 179 and 187 handed in today.

Grade 10 Applied. New worksheet on Elimination. Work on the Substitution and Elimination assignments. Both are due before the break.

Grade 11 College - Do isometric and geometric drawings today in class. If there is any time left, be sure to get your measurement work done.

Grade 10 Essentials. Worksheets on Imperial measurement. Converting (inches to feet, and feet to inches, as well as yards to feet, and feet to yards). Rounding Imperial measures. The rest are basic measurement. Next week we look at time, then move on after the break (and we will be able to start using calculators soon).

Thurs March 5th

Grade 12's...work on q's from 216 #5,7,10,11,12,16,17,19,20,21 (and mess with Mr. Spence...LOL)

Grade 10 Applied..Learn Elimination, and work on pg 135 #1-4 (ace), and 8-10 (a)

Grade 10 Essentials...Learn Imperial Measure..use it to complete the worksheets

Grade 11 College...Get Pg 216-219. Work on 3,4,5,7,12,18

POTW (Blog style)

In addition to the Problem of the Week that goes up in the classroom, I will occasionally propose a problem here with the same basic rules (less people hand it in = more marks). Each will be given a specific due date (not necessarily always a week). Check back often to see Homework and BlogPOTW's.

Here's your first one:

There is an island at the equator, and on the island is a fleet of jets. The island also has the only fuel source for the jets. With a full tank, each jet can fly halfway around the world (at the equator). Since there is nowhere else to get fuel, they would crash...but...any other jet can help refuel them in mid-air (with a portion of their own fuel)...but must keep enough for them to safely return to the island.
The question then is this: What is the fewest number of jets (and more importantly, how can it be done), so that one single jet is able to fly around the entire world (without landing obviously).

This puzzle is due next Thurs (before March break), and is worth double the points (as our first BlogPOTW)...with the points being divided 5, 3, and 2..to the top 3 answers in each class.

Wed March 4

Grade 12 College. Continue to work on your measurement assignments. Please make sure 179 and 187 are handed in by Fri.

Grade 11 College. Continue to work on your measurement pages. Make sure pg 180 and 187 are handed in by Friday.

Grade 10 Essentials. A little review today. Mostly fractions, percents, etc...all the way back to adding, subt, mult and div by hand.

Grade 10 Applied. Work on the Substitution sheet continues. It will be collected, so make sure you get as much done as you can.

Note: I am away from the afternoon classes today for a math conference.
